What is the purpose of the EHPM?
To be operated either remotely by a signaller or in case of failure by either a driver or competent employee acting under instructions.
Describe the purpose of the power/manual switch?
It allows either remote operation or manual operation of the points.
Describe the purpose of the directional control lever?
To select the direction of the points, i.e. normal or reverse.
Describe the purpose of the pump handle socket?
To pump the points into the required position.
How are the points manually operated?
And what do you do after the points are set?
- Open the hinged lid by unlocking the padlock
- Move the POWER/MANUAL switch to MANUAL
- The directional control lever to the required position and hold in position
- Pull the pump handle from its socket and insert the handle
- Pump the handle until the points are fully home and locked
After the points have been manually set
- move the pump. Handle to the vertical position and remove the handle.
- Leave the POWER/MANUAL switch in MANUAL position
- Close the hinged lid and secure with the padlock
- Apply the hand locking bar
How does a Driver secure the points?
With the hand locking bar
Under whose authority does the Driver operate the points?
Train controller or controlling signaller
Where can drivers be asked to manually use an EHPM?
Cranbourne sidings
Can a driver be asked to put the EHPM back to power when finished?
NO!!
What is under the lid of an EHPM?
