Electricity & Electrical Equipment Flashcards
What is Electricity?
The movement of electrons from one atom to another along a conductor
What is an Electric Current
The flow of electricity along a conductor
What is an Insulator or nonconductor
Substances that do not easily transmit electricity. Ex: plastic, wood
What is an Alternating Current (AC)
Rapid and interrupted current, glowing first in one direction and then back in the opposite direction
What is an Amp/Ampere
Unit that measures the amount of electric current (strength)
What is a Watt?
Measures how much electrical energy is used in 1 second
Where do we use a Milliamp/microamp meter?
Present on galvanic and other facial tx’s. Measures the rate of flow of electricity via a window or digital meter.
What is a fuse?
A device that prevents excessive current from passing through a circuit
How does a fuse work?
Prevents overheating/fires by blowing out when wires become too hot
What is a Circuit breaker?
Switch that automatically interrupts or shuts off an electric circuit at first indication of overload
What is UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) Certification?
Certifies the safety of all electrical appliances
What is Galvanic Current?
A low level constant and direct current with a positive and negative pole that produces chemical changes when it passes through the tissues and fluids of the body
What is Cataphoresis?
Infuses an acidic (positive) product deeper into the tissue by using the GC from positive to negative pole
What is Anaphoresis?
Infuses an alkaline (negative) product into the tissue by using negative to positive, stripping the acid mantle
What is Desincrustation?
A form of anaphoresis that often/emulsifies grease (oil) deposits and comedones in the follicles. Used to increase blood supply and open pores, aiding in comedone extractions
