What is a lesion?
Structural change in the tissue caused by injury or disease
What is a papule?
Small red, raised lesion on the surface of the skin that contains no fluid
What is a wheal?
Itchy and swollen. Raised lesion directly related to an insect bite, allergy, or sting
What is a Vesicle?
Small blister or sac containing fluid. Usually clear with no active presence of infection
What is a fissure?
A crack in the skin that penetrates down to the dermis layer
What is rosacea?
Chronic congestion present in the cheek and nose area. results in extreme redness due to dilation of blood vessels
What is acne?
Chronic inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands, resulting in an overproduction of oil, causing congestion. Characterized by lesions, inflammation, and redness
What is Grade 4 acne? Can we treat it?
cystic acne (do not treat at CHI)
When should you see a derm for acne?
When cysts are present with inflammation, redness, comedones, papules, and pustules.
What are four disorders of the sebaceous glands?
Seborrhea
Carbuncle
Acne
Rosacea
What is Bromhidrosis?
Foul smelling perspiration from the underarm and genital area as a result of sweat mixing with the bacteria found in those areas
What are three inflammation disorders?
Dermatitis
Eczema
Psoriasis
What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis
A skin disease that causes itchy red patches covered by white or silver scales
What is Hyper- when referring to pigmentations?
excessive pigment due to UV exposure
What are Lentigines?
Freckles that come with age
