Q

why does a torch light up when you turn on a switch

A

because the battery in the circuit provides energy. The battery helps push the electric current through the circuit. When we turn on a switch, it provides a passage way for the current to flow through.

Q

why would a balloon attract to a jersey when it is rubbed against the jersey

A

this happens because when you rub two objects together there us a shift of electrons due to the force. The balloon becomes negatively charged while the jersey becomes positively charged. When this attraction happens it is called an electrostatic force.
