What did the pharaoh need to control Egypt?
To control Egypt, the pharaoh needed the loyalty and labour of the people. Egypt’s social pyramid provides both.
Who was at L(level)-1, L-2, L-3, L-4, and L-5?
L-1=Pharaoh
L-2=Priests, officials and nobles
L-3=Scribes
L-4=Merchants and artisans
L-5=Slaves and farmers
Explain pharaoh
Egyptians believed that pharaohs controlled everything, as they believed gods did, and the pharaoh was like a god-king to them.
Explain Nobles, priests, and officials
They helped the pharaoh govern Egypt.
Explain scribes
Scribes also helped the pharaoh govern Egypt. They were the only people who could write, and kept record of the bureaucracy.
Explain Merchants and artisans
They were in the middle. Painters, stonecutters, and builders spent most of their life working on temples and tombs.
Explain farmers.
Most people were farmers.They raised food during the growing season, and for the rest of the year, they were required as labourers on the pharaohs building projects. Most did so willingly, out of religious devotion.They believed doing so would help them be rewarded after death.
Explain slaves.
Slaves were at the bottom. Many were prisoners of war or debtors who were freed from slavrey after a long time.The were the property of their owners and had to do what they were told.
