Excellent source of HBV protein Fat - mostly monounsaturated, then saturated, then polyunsaturated Vitamins A + D Zinc Phosphorus Iron Calcium However no fibre, no carbohydrate and no vitamin C
Advice for when buying eggs
Buy free range eggs or organic, Don’t buy caged as its unethical
Make sure the egg has the lion mark to show its been vaccinated against salmonella and produced to a strict code of practice
Make sure they aren’t expired
Make sure none of the eggs are broken before purchasing
What is the function of eggs in the diet
They can improve levels of the ‘good’ cholesterol
Good protein - for muscle repair and growth
Good for slimming as they are low in calories
Vit A for good skin and vision, and immune system
Vit D for absorption of calcium
How should eggs be stored
In the fridge (ideally between 3 and 5 degrees)
Make sure they aren’t cracked
Make sure they are in date
