what causes seborrhoeic dermatitis
fungal - malassezia furfur
where does seborrhoeic dermatitis occur
sebum rich areas eg scalp, periorbital, nasalabial folds, otitis externa, blepharitis
assoc with seborrhoeic dermatitis
HIV, parkinsons
mx seborrhoeic dermatitis scalp
1 = zinc or tar shampoos // 2 = ketoconazole // 3 = selenium sulphide + topical steroids
face + body management seborrhoeic dermatitis
topical antifungal eg ketoconazole // topical steroids
where does seborrhoeic dermatitis occur in kids
scalp (cradle cap) , nappy area, face, flexures
symptoms seborrhoeic dermatitis in babies
cradle cap early sign - red rash with yellow scales
when does seborrhoeic dermatitis tend to resolve in kids

topical emolliant // topical imidazole
who gets periorificial dermatitis + what can cause it
women 20-45 // topical or inhaled steroids
symptoms seborrhoeic dermatitis
red, clustered papules, vesicles, pustules // around mouth but usually away from lips

NO steroids // oral or topical abx
when does eczema usually present
<2 years

itchy, red rash // flexor surfaces affected // dry skin // atopy
where does eczema in young kids usually develop
face, trunk, extensors
1st line mx eczema
avoid irritants, emollients, topical steroids, wet wrapping
how should emollients and steroids be applied
emollient first (250g/week), wait 30 mins, apply steroid
2nd +3rd line mx eczema
immunosuppressants eg ciclopsorin // phototherapy
what is pompholyx
eczema of hands and feet
what can exac pompholyx
humidity and high temps
symptoms pompholyx
small blisters on palms and soles, vv itchy, burst –> dry and cracked
mx pompholyx
cool compress, emollients, topical steroids
what are the increasing potency of topical steroids
hydrocortisone –> eumovate –> betnovate or fluticasone –> dermovate
