Q

What is a carrying capacity?

A

The amount of space or resources a population can hold. It can only support a certain amount of organisms the resources can provide.

Q

CJ wanted to see if listening to music would make the basketball players make more baskets. On day one, he didn’t play any music and counted how many baskets they could make in 10 minutes. On day 2, he played rap music and counted the baskets, and on day 3, he played classical music and counted the baskets.

Independent Variable (IV):
Dependent Variable(DV):
Control Group:

A

IV= The music
DV=The number of baskets made
Control Group=The day with no music

Q

Explain what limiting factors are and how they affect a population.

A

Limiting factors are things that slow or stop a population growth.
Some of these factors are biotic, living, and some of them are abiotic, non-living. One biotic factor is not enough food. An abiotic factor is something like a bad temperature for that organism.

Q

Describe the difference between density independent and density dependent factors. Give at least one example of each.

A

Density dependent needs to have a dense population.They are also usually biotic factors. For example a disease will spread faster and get to more organisms if the density is large, not so much for a small density. Density independent is going to happen no matter what the population is. It is mostly abiotic. For example a tornado does not care if there are 2 organisms in a population, or if there are 200. It’s going to happen no matter what.
