Ecology Flashcards
Organism
Individual is a single living organism
Population
Group of organism of the same species that live in the same area
Community
All population of different species interacting with each other on an ecosystem
Habitat
Is a place where organism live
Ecosystem
Community of organism and their environment interacting together
Biosphere
The part of earth that contains all ecosystem
Abiotic factor
Light intensity
Temperature
pH in soil
Moisture/ water availability
Air
Humidity
Biotic
Prey
Competitors
Predators
Parasites
Disease
Limiting factors of population growth
- predators, competition , disease
- temperature change, nutrients level
Competition
Organism of two species use the limited resources and have a negative impact to each other
-/- both organism
Predation
A member of one specie predator eats all or part of the body of a member of another species prey
(+/-)
Mutualism
(+/+) long term close association between two species in which two species in which both partners benefits
Parasitism
(+/-) (parasite/host) close association between two species in which one benefits and the other is harmed
Interaction in which one organism, the parasite derives its nourishment from another organism it’s host which is harmed in the process
Producer
An organism that makes it own organism nutrients through photosynthesis
Consumer
An organism that gets its energy by feeding on other organism
Herbivores
An organism that gets it energy by eating plants
Carnivores
An animals that gets its energy by eating other animals
Decomposer
An organism that gets its energy from dead or waste organic material
Biomass
The total mass of all organism in a habitat
Sun is principal source of energy input to biological system
Pyramid energy
Only the energy that is made into new cells remains with the organism to be passsed on
Even then some of this energy doesn’t get consumed
But energy is still stored in these parts and so it doesn’t get passed on
Majority of the energy an organism receives get lost
Making waste product
As movement
As heat
As un digested waste
