What is Anorexia Nervosa?

A

A condition in which a person reduces eating to the point that their body weight is significantly low, or less than minimally expected. BMI less than 18.5. Distorted body images and eat in front of others but then force themselves to throw up or take large dosages of laxatives.

What are the symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa?

A

Hormone secretion becomes abnormal (thyroid and adrenal glands), heart muscles become weak and heart rate my alter. Diarrhea, loss of muscle tissue, loss of sleep, low blood pressure, lack of menstruation cycles. If it is severe, dehydration, severe chemical imbalances and organ damage may occur.

What is Bulimia Nervosa?

A

A condition in which a person develops a cycle of ‘binging’, or overeating enormous amounts of food at one sitting, and then using unhealthy methods to avoid weight gain. Deliberately vomiting after the binge or misuse of laxative or fasting for 1 or 2 days. Triggered by anxious or depressed mood, social stressors, feelings about weight or intense hunger after attempts t6o diet. No control on how little or how much they eat. All-or-nothing thinking.

What are the symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa?

A

Severe tooth-decay and erosion of the lining of the esophagus from the acid (vomiting), enlarged salivary glands, potassium, calcium, sodium imbalances, damage to intestinal tract from overuse laxatives, heart problems, fatigue and seizures

What is Binge-eating Disorder?

A

A condition in which a person overeats, or binges on, enormous amounts of food at one sitting, but unlike bulimia nervosa, the individual does not then purge or use other unhealthy methods to avoid weight gain.
