Whats The ears function ?
The ears function is not just to hear sound but also to detect motion, orientation and to maintain balance
How do the ears work?
Sound waves passing through the air are channeled into the ear by the outside parts – the pinnae.
The waves pass down the external ear passage and cause the ear drum to vibrate.
This is allowed to happen as the drum separates another air-filled chamber – the middle ear – from the external ear.
Whats the eustachian tube do?
A small passage way whch connects the middle ear to the throat. This is because it must be the same pressure as atmospheric air.
This equalizing of air pressure causes the popping sensation when we change heights.
If these two chambers were not at the same pressure the ear drum would not vibrate correctly and could even burst.
