Ringing in the ear
tinnitus
infection of the outer ear. Often associated with swimming. AKA “swimmer’s ear”
Acute Otitis Externa
Inflammation of the middle ear
Otitis Media
Effusion of the middle ear
Serous Otitis Media
Bacterial or viral infection of the middle ear
Purulent Otitis Media
An abnormal sense of rotary movement
Vertigo
Brief episodes of moderate to severe vertigo associated with specific provocative head positioning; gradually diminishes over a month or two. No associated hearing loss.
BPPV
Abrupt onset of severe vertigo. Lasts for several hours to a day. Recurrent and associated with tinnitus. Hearing loss & sensation of ear fullness.
Meniere’s Disease
Fast onset and slow decrease of dizziness. Hearing loss.
Labyrinthitis
Sensorineural hearing loss that occurs in people as they age.
Presbycussis
Weber’s Test results in sound lateralizes to the bad ear. Rinne’s Test AC is less than BC
Conduction Hearing Loss
Weber’s Test results in sound lateralizing to the good ear. Rinne’s Test AC greater than BC
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Weber’s Test results in sound heard equally in both ears. Rinne’s Test results with AC>BC
