Database connected to EPOs systems to keep track of stock
Records minimum and maximum stock levels for items
Alerts staff when stock is too high or low
Uses ‘Just In Time’ (JIT) stock control where products are only ordered as they are needed - improves efficiency

Disadvantages - Expensive to implement, not always accurate as some stock could have been robbed
Features and implications used
by organisations - Data logging
What are the advantages
and disadvantages
Connected to sensors
Collection of data that monitors a process and automatically logs data onto the reader
Used in weather stations as the recording device would monitor data on wind speed, temperature and humidity
Advantages - Greater accuracy, data can be logged on more regularly
Disadvantages - A lot of sensors rely on wireless connectivity, readings will not be accurate is sensors are not calibrated correctly which can lead to incorrect conclusions
Features and implications used by organisations - Data analysis
Data gathered from logging needs to analysed to find trends and patterns
Data mining is where large amounts of data sets are analysed
Used in supermarkets, loyalty cards to analyse customer habits to better advertise specific customers
Advantages - Spot trends to allow business to improve itself and become more efficient, outputted into different formats to make it easier to interpret the data
Disadvantages - Computers lack sense, if incorrect is provided than incorrect analysis is performed, malicious users can try access the information
