E1G Flashcards
Joints
1
Q
sternoclavicular joint type
A
Type: synovial joint (saddle type)
2
Q
sternoclavicular joint articular surfaces
A
- sternal end of clavicle articulates with clavicular notch of manubrium of sternum and a small part of 1st costal cartilage
- articular surfaces are separated by an articular disc (fibrocartilage) completely divides joint into 2 compartments
3
Q
sternoclavicular joint ligaments
A
- anterior and posterior sternoclavicular ligaments reinforce anterior and posterior aspects of joint capsule, respectively
- interclavicular ligament: connects sternal ends of both clavicles across jugular (suprasternal) notch of sternum
- costoclavicular ligament: strong ligament that extends from 1st rib and 1st costal cartilage to inferior surface of sternal end of clavicle
4
Q
sternoclavicular joint movements
A
- protraction/retraction and elevation/depression of clavicle
- some rotation around long axis of clavicle
