E1: Microscopy Flashcards
It consists of a stand (base + arm), on which is mounted the stage and lenses
Microscope
What type of lens is on top that usually has 10x or 15x power?
Ocular lens
What type of lens that focuses on the specimen?
Objective lens
What are the three objective lenses of varying magnifications mounted on a revolving nosepiece?
- Scanning Lens
- Low power Lens
- High power Lens
It directs light through the slide into the objective
Condenser
Diaphragm on the substage condenser controls the amount of light reaching the objective, and also affects the contrast of the specimen
Iris
What are the two types of lenses in the microscope?
- Ocular Lens
- Objective Lens
It’s an eyepiece, which magnifies an object 10 to 15 times its normal size
Ocular Lens
It’s located on a revolving nosepiece and has three types of magnification
Objective Lens
It is used to focus on a specimen by moving
the stage up and down
- Coarse Adjustment Knobs
- Fine Adjustment Knobs
Used for initial focusing, this knob makes large, quick adjustments to the stage’s position. It has a full range of motion, moving the stage by centimeters.
Coarse adjustment knob
Used to fine-tune the focus, this knob makes small, precise adjustments to the stage’s position. It has a smaller range of motion, moving the stage by millimeters.
