DSA pulmonary functions Flashcards
indications
to evaluate symptoms and signs of lung dis
Obstructive diseases and residual volume
Can see the air trapping and hyperinflation
For restrictive diseases and RV
total lung capacity is needed to confirm true restriction and better quantitate the degree of restriction
FEV1/FVC lower than normal
obstructive defect is present. (FEV1 has fallen to a greater degree than FVC
FEV1/FVC greater than normal
Normal or restrictive defect. Look at FVC if less than normal restrictive is present. confirm with with TLC if it is less then predicted
Mixed vs Air trapping
If FVC is below normal. Mixed is if the TLC is lower than normal. Air trapping is in severe cases of obstruction. normal TLC but higher than normal RV (pseudorestriction)
