Sjogren Syndrome
autoimmune inflammatory disease which can cause dry eyes
Aqueous Deficient
part of Sjogren
age related, inflammatory, lacrimal gland disorders, AIDs
Evaporative
prolonged computer use, facial nerve palsy
contacts wear, allergic conjuncitivitis, Vit A deficiency
Patient Complaints
vision comes and goes foreign body sensation ocular irritation and dryness excessive tearing photophobia
Conditions that make Dry Eye worse
smoky, dry environments
indoor heating
fans
excess reading/ computer use
Height of Normal Inferior Tear Meniscus
0.25 mm
Treating Corneal Opacification from dry eye
can require corneal transplants
Diagnosing Dry Eye
Dyes- NaFl, rose bengal, lissamine green TBUT Shirmer and phenol red thread testing- tear production tear film analysis meibography
Interpalpebral Staining
shows dry eye is from a lack of tear production

dry eye from blepharitis or exposure
Rose- Bengal Stain
