Drugs for Dysrhythmias Flashcards
What is the heart’s ability to conduct?
automaticity
What is the “pacemaker” of the heart?
SA node
What is the normal order of the path of electrical impulse of the heart?
SA node
R & L atria
AV node
Bundle of His
R & L ventricles
purkinje fibers
How fast can the SA node fire?
60-100 bpm
What happens if the SA node gives out?
AV node can take over
How fast can the AV node fire?
40-60 bpm
What happens on the EKG if AV node is initiating conduction cycle?
No P wave
What happens if the SA and AV node gives out?
Purkinje fibers initiate impulse
How fast can the purkinje fibers fire?
35-40 bpm
What is the term for when the pacemaker is NOT the SA node?
ectopic focus (foci)
How is the pacemaker determined?
Whichever is the fastest at firing
What causes arrhythmias?
Impulse initiation problem and/or blockage of conduction in path
What is an AE of antidysrhythmias?
worsen dysrhythmias
What is a non-pharmacologic therapies for dysrhythmias?
Defiberilation
Insert pacemaker
Ablation
What does defiberilation do to the heart?
Sends powerful electrical shock to heart that TEMPORARILY STOPS the heart to hopefully “reset” it
