Drugs 6.2 Flashcards
Terbinafine
For dermatophytes (tinea) Inhibits squalene epoxidase -> block ergosterol synthesis
Cyproheptadine
Serotonin receptor antagonist
For serotonin syndrome
Enfuvirtide
Fusion inhibitor
Binds gp41- block membrane fusion
Protamine (sulfate)
treat bleeding due to heparin toxicity
Amlodipine
dihydropyridine CCB (nifedipine also) SE: flushing, HA, dizziness, peripheral edema- preferential dilation of precapillary vessels -> fluid extravasation
NaHCO3
For TCA overdose w/ widened QRS or ventricular arrhythmias; increase serum pH- neutralize drug- and increase sodium- overcome channel blockade
Colchicine
Gout
binds intracelleular tubulin -> impaired leukocyte migration and less inflm
also disrupts microtubules in GI mucosal cells -> diarrhea, sometimes NV and pain
Nitrates
Primary effect: venodilation -> decreased preload -> decreased left ventricular systolic wall stress and myocardial O2 demand
Buprenorphine
Opioid receptor partial agonist
May precipitate withdrawal in opioid tolerant pts w/ chronic pain
Fluphenazine
Haloperidol similar
High potency, 1st gen antipsychotic
SE: dystonia, akathisia, parkinsonism
Pramipexole
Nonergot Dopamine agonist
Tx Parkinson’s
Argatroban
Direct thrombin inhibitor
(hirudin, lepirudin)
tx heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (thrombosis)
Ethosuximide
For absence seizures
Block T-type Ca channels in thalamic neurons
Rifampin
Inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase
Clozapine
Tx refractory schizophrenia
Risk agranulocytosis, seizures, myocarditis, metabolic syndrome
