Explain atypical antipsychotic.
-clozapine
-acts upon both Dopamine and Seritonin
-bind on the D2 receptor sites in PSN reduce ps of schz
-agonist upon seritonin recpetor sites increasing levels of seritonin
-reduce negative symptoms improve moods and reduce anxiety
What are the evaluations?
-RTS, Thornley et al
-little motivation is required
-Negative side effects
Explain teh RTS?
-meta analysis of 13 studies
-1121 ppt investigating chlorpromazine against a placebo
-typical antipsychotic associated with overall better functioning and reducing severe symptoms
-meltzer clozapine effective in 30-50% resistant cases
-increasing validity
