DRT Flashcards
1
Q
What are the range and hosts of tomentosus?
A
- Central BC Attacks Sx (high) Pl (mod) if with Sx All others tolerant/resistant
2
Q
How do site series effect tomentosus?
A
- Dry, often absent due to no Sx
- zonal - dry, most abundant due to spruce under stress
- wet sites, less common due to anaerobic conditions
3
Q
How does DRT spread?
A
-similar to DRL but spores can infect small surface roots.
4
Q
What are some examples of DRT damage
A
Mortality, reduced increment and decay.
- often with spruce beetle (stress)
- windthrow (spruce tend to blow over and pine tend to stand dead)
5
Q
Typical diagnostic symptoms of DRT
A
- Windthrow (Sx criss cross) but pine die standing.
- Root balls (roots heaviliy damaged)
- Decay
- Red brown stain, canoes, honeycomb
- Fruiting body
- mini schwenitzii with a yellowish ring on top
- present in fall on about 20% of infected trees
6
Q
What are canoes / honeycomb
A
Features of tomentosus decay (white rot)
Canoes : long vertical white pits
Honeycomb : decayed wood cross section looks like a honeycomb
7
Q
What are the other DR’s?
A
- Innosus tomentosus -DRT
- H. Annosum - DRN
- P. Schweinitzii - DRS
- Rhizina undulata - DRR
- Black stain - DRB
