Drivers Ed Flashcards
It is illegal to wear a headset while driving (true or false)
True, you need to make sure you hear everything, like sirens, motorcycles, or screeching tires that seem like hazards
What is the way to start with driving (with the wheel)
Start with the 9 to 3 o clock position (like imagine the numbers on a clock) or the 8 and 4 position.
What are the two situations in which one-handed turning is required?
When you are looking back and turning, you place one hand on the 12 o’clock position and when you are using driving controls that require you to remove your hand to press them
When do you signal?
When you turn, change lanes, slow down, or stop
What happens if your backlights don’t work in your car?
You use hand signals to indicate whether you are turning, stopping, slowing down, or changing lanes
You should signal:
Even when no one is looking at you, when you are about to change lanes (even 5 seconds before), when you are about to turn(100 feet before), when you are going through an intersection
When do you use your horn?
To avoid collisions and alert oncoming traffic
What are the lights for your car used for?
They are used to ensure you can see what is in front of you. When you increase the brightness of the light, you can see more things in the dark, and it is actually illegal to drive without them on
With a single solid line, can you pass another car?
No, as there isn’t enough space and there is high risk.
What about double solid yellow lines?
There are some exceptions, but usually you cannot pass over the lines, unless you are taking a left turn to exit a driveway to enter, if you are in a carpool lane with a designated entrance on the left, or if your lane is closed so you can change lanes
Broken Yellow Line
You may pass if the broken line is next to your driving lane.
Single Solid White Line
This means that they are going in the same direction, unlike yellow
Double Solid White Lines
It separates two different type of lanes such as a carpool and regular lane. It indicates a barrier between the two. You can never change lanes over double solid white lines, and you should wait for a broken white line
End of Lane Markings
These are usually long, broken white lines that indicate that your lane is ending and that you need to switch soon (either merging or going to a freeway). You should look for a sign
Yield Line
Shows drivers where to slow down or stop. The triangles point towards vehicles approaching.
