Drag Flashcards
Define Drag.
The resistance is caused by the movement of an object through air or water.
List the Factors Affecting Drag.
Cross-Sectional Area.
Surface Characteristics.
Velocity.
What is the Cross-Sectional Area?
This is the ‘cut-out’ shape you’d make if you drew around yourself - not the same as surface area.
What is Surface Characteristics?
The friction between the water/air and the outside of the object - you want to be smooth and streamlined.
What is Velocity?
The faster you go, the more drag you have - because you are hitting more air/water as you move in a given time.
Describe Drafting.
A technique in cycling where you cycle very close to the rider ahead of you; you must be close enough to have an effect.
