DNA & RNA Flashcards
What happens after translation?
Code is in RNA language
What does each codon code for?
Amino acids or STOP
How many different amino acids are there?
20-64 possibilities
How does translation begin?
With MRNA attaching to the ribosome
What brings in the correct amino acid to the ribosome?
TRNA
Translation continues until when?
The STOP codon is reached
What pops off the ribosome and goes where it’s directed in the cell?
protein
How is the code for MRNA read?
3 letters at a time
After Translation what code is it in?
RNA language
RNA is made of….
subunits of nucleotides
What are nucleotides made of?
Sugar/ribose, single phosphate, RNA single stranded, Uracil replaces thymine
What are three types of RNA?
MRNA, TRNA, rRNA
What does MRNA do?
messenger…carries a copy of instructions on how to build a protein
What does TRNA do?
transfer…brings amino acids to the ribosome to build the protein
What does rRNA do?
Ribosomal…actual code on the ribosome where a specific protein is made
What is transcription?
Moving RNA from DNA
What does RNA polyamerase do
unzip the DNA & brings in new nucleotides
What does promoter sequence on DNA do?
says where to begin
What does one strand of DNA do?
Acts as the template
How many strands of of RNA come from a strand of DNA
1
When RNA is edited where does it go?
It leaves the nucleus
Where does the final edited RNA go?
Leaves the nucleus and goes to cytoplasms(ribosome)
