Q

process:

A
  • dna helicase breaks the hydrogen bonds between the complementary base PAIRS BETWEEN the two strands of the double helix causing the double helix to unwind
  • each of the separated parental dna STRANDS will act as a template
  • free floating nucleotides within the nucleus are attracted to the complementary base PAIRS on the parental dna strandS acting as a template
  • the adjacent nucleotides are joined together by a phosphodiester bond via a condensation reaction that is catalysed by dna polymerase
  • there is now TWO SETS of daughter dna. one strand being the original parental dna and the other being the newly synthesised dna
