DNA replication - 1 Flashcards
1
Q
what is semi-conservative replication
A
half the strands in each new DNA molecule are from original DNA molecule
2
Q
how is DNA replicated (3)
A
- DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds - forms 2 single strands
- original single strands acts as template. complementary base pairing.
- condensation joins nucleotides of new strand together - catalysed by DNA polymerase. Hydrogen bonds form between bases
3
Q
who came up with the theory of semi-conservative DNA replication
A
Watson and Crick
4
Q
who validated Watson and Crick’s theory
A
Meselson and Stahl
