In Mark’s Gospels, Jesus appears to forbid divorce

In Matthews gospels, Jesus appears to allow divorce in cases of unfaithfullness

“anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and married another women commits adultery”

Is divorce accepted?

A

In catholic church, divorce is NOT accepted because the marriage vows are an agreement made before God, so cannot be broken.

In portesant church, divorce is accepted because people make mistakes and relationships break down

Is remarriage accepted?

A

Divorced catholics are not allowed to remarry in a catholic church.

Protestants that are divorced can remarry if the local clergy agree to it.

What are non religious views on divorce?

A
  1. some are against divorce for social and cultural reasons. They argue that divorce has made it too easy for couples to end a relationshipand that has negatively affected children.
  2. others, including Humanists, believe that divorce is the compassionate response when relationships are broken down, and that remarriage can create happiness.
  3. situation ethicists will approve of divorce in certain situations, but not others. Thier response to divorce and remarriage will depends on what is the most loving thing to do.
