what is the nature of crime?
a crime is an act that is against the law
- Hudud: crimes against God, wgho have a fixed punishment.
- Qisas: crimes against individuals or families, where the victim’s nearest relatives are able to choose their preferred punishment.
- Ta’zir: crimes for which punishment is not stated in thr Qur’an or the Hadith, and is therefore left to the discretion of a qadi (a muslim judge)
what are the 4 causes of crime and explanation?
- socilization
difficulties in confroming to society’s norms, because of poor parenting or a troubles family life.
- labelling theory/ media stereotyping
prejudice against people from particular social or racial backgrounds, whcih reinforces negative perceptions towards specific groups, forcing them into isolation and eventually crime.
- lack of opportunity
lack of suitable job opportunities. people believed they are entitled to jobs but are denied them.
- subculture
Peer groups that apporve of, or encourage, delinquent behaviour, due toa dislike for rules and disrespect for authority
what do muslims believe about satan
tries to distract people away from Allah and tempts them to do things that often lead to crime, such as drink alcohal and gamble.
what are muslim teachings about crime?
“God commands justice, doing good […] do not break oaths after you have sworn them”
teaches muslim:
- Alah expects fairness
- they should act in the right way
- they should honour their promises, such as to be law-abiding citizens
