Diversions will normally be made for the following reasons:
A
- When the weather at the planned destination is reported to be below the minima prescribed by an Aircraft Operator for their aircraft;
- When obstructions on the landing area, which constitute a hazard to aircraft landing, cannot be cleared within a reasonable period;
- The failure of airborne equipment;
- The failure of essential ground aids to landing in circumstances which would require their use;
- Unacceptable delay due to congestion of air traffic;
- The closure of the aerodrome of destination.
The Aerodrome Operator is responsible for decisions regarding the availability of the aerodrome.

What is the action for Diversion originated by the ground organisation (ATC)?
A
- If a controller deems it necessary to divert an a/c they shall consult a/c operator .
- They will both decide the diversion aerodrome
- The diversion shall be passed to pilot with reason why
- In an emergency the controller shall express diversion as a request and contact a/c operator
ASAP . Divert first then speak to operator - Pilot has final say.

- If pilot does not comply with request, permission to attempt landing will not be refused unless aerodrome is closed by aerodrome operator

Diversions to RAF aerodromes
A
- Except in an emergency a/c shall not be diverted to RAD or USAF aerodrome without prior
approval from D+D - A/C from CIS even though in an emergency must not be diverted to RAF bases except with
agreement from D+D
