Dissociation Curve Flashcards
1
Q
What does the steep section in the middle of dissociation curve show?
A
Easy for oxygen to bind as pO2 increases
2
Q
Why are there shallow gradients at low and high pO2 of dissociation curve?
A
Harder for oxygen to bind
3
Q
When the curve is steep, what do small increases in pO2 cause?
A
Large changes in amount of oxygen being carried by haemoglobin
4
Q
Why does increase in CO2 production lead to a decrease in blood pH?
A
It reacts with water to form carbonic acid
