Capillaries Flashcards
What are capillaries?
Site of substance exchange with cells
Why does the vena cava have the lowest pressure?
It’s the final blood vessel to return to the heart
When is blood pressure highest in the aorta?
Immediately after ventricular contraction
Why do multicellular organisms require a transport system?
Low SA:V & cannot rely on diffusion to supply or remove substances because diffusion distance is too long
What does the smooth muscle layer do?
Contract to control flow of blood in arteries, arterioles & veins
