Abstract
The indication that a narrative is about to start
Orientation
Sets the scene and provides further contextual information ( who, what,where)
Complicating Action
The main body providing a range of narrative detail
Resolution
Gives the narrative closure- rounding off story
Evaluation
Additions to the basic story to give attitudes or to command the listeners attention at important moments
Coda
A sign that the narrative is complete
External evaluation
A time of recounting and not usually part of the sequence of events
E.g. “ now I’m getting to the good part…” “this is a great story…”
Internal evaluation
Details which occurred at the same time as those detailed in the complicating action
Intensifying evaluation
Contribution vividness via gestures, repetition or dramatic sounds
Explicative evaluation
Providing reasons for narrative events
E.g. free annoyed his mum, because he’s always noisy”
