Describe the medical model of disability
- Disability as a problem which belongs to disabled individual
- Issue concerning individual affected
- Viewing disability as problem of the person which requires sustained medical care
Describe the social model of disability
- More inclusive approach to disability
- Society which disables people through design
- Restriction on activity is due to social or physical barriers to disabled individiuals
- Recognition that society can reduce and remove some limiting barriers

What is discrimination?
Unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age or sex
Describe 4 types of discrimination
- Direct discrimination (ban on employing blind people)
- Disability Related (refusing to take blind passenger due to guide dog)
- Failure to make reasonable adjustment
- Victimisation / Harassment
How does the DDA define disability?
Physical or mental impairment which has substantial and long term adverse effect on person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities

A condition which gets worse over time
