what is a disability
A disability is a physical or mental impairment that limits a
person in his or her everyday activities.
types of disibilities
sensory (blindness, deafness)
physical (spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy)
cognitive (autism, dementia)
intellectual (impaired speech, down’s syndrome)
mental illness (bipolar disorder, depression).
what are ways in which a person can become
physically impaired
congenital (existed since birth)
it may be the result of a degenerative illness that gradually weakens the
limbs
the result of a serious accident.
How can society meet the needs of the
disabled?
To present access to all facilities.
To prevent it as much as possible.
To help in the rehabilitation of those who are disabled.
To educate people about the rights and needs of the disabled.
Employ people with disabilities.
Increase disability representation in political setting
Promote social inclusion in schools
Autism
a condition which makes it difficult for a person to communicate
and form relationships with other people.
Schizophrenia
a very serious mental illness in which someone cannot
think or behave normally and often experiences delusions.
Phobia
to be fearful of certain things for example xenophobia (fear of foreigners).
Down’s syndrome
a condition arising from a chromosome (chromosome 21) defect
causing physical abnormalities etc.
