Abortion Flashcards
what is abortion
Abortion refers to the medical process of ending a pregnancy, either through medical or surgical means.
Types of abortion
Spontaneous abortion (miscarriage): When a pregnancy ends naturally.
Induced abortion: When pregnancy is intentionally ended through medical or surgical procedures.
Reasons for Abortion
People may seek abortion for various reasons, including health concerns, financial or social hardship, cases of rape or incest, or when a fetus is diagnosed with a serious medical condition.
christianity
The Catholic Church opposes abortion in all cases, except in circumstances where the life of the mother is at risk. This stance is based on the belief that life begins at conception and that every human life is sacred.
islam
Islam generally prohibits abortion, but there are exceptions. The core belief is that life is sacred, and abortion is only allowed in certain circumstances, such as preserving the life of the mother.
jewish
Judaism holds that life is sacred, but there are differing views on abortion based on the interpretation of Jewish law (Halakha). Abortion is not viewed as murder in the same way that it is in some other religious traditions, but it is still considered a serious decision.
hinduism
Hinduism does not have a single, uniform position on abortion, as beliefs can vary based on sect, tradition, and interpretation of scriptures.
