4 Layers of Stomach (MSMS)

A

1) Mucosa- innermost layer, smooth muscle, contains mucus membranes that secret digestive enzymes & hydrochloric acid.
2) Submucosa- around mucosa, connective tissue, contains nerves & blood vessels.
3) Mucularis- made of smooth muscle layers, enables movement
4) Serosa- outermost layer, secretes serous fluid that keeps stomach wet to reduce friction from surrounding organs

  • 2nd Largest organ in body (after skin), located under Diaphragm
    1) Detoxification of the blood
    2) Storage of nutrients
    3) Production of components of blood plasma
  • Liver’s role in digestion is to produce bile
  • Gallbladder is a small organ that stores & releases bile.
