Q

Define diffusion.

A

The gradual movement of particles from places where there are lots of them to places where there are fewer of them.
IN OTHER WORDS

2
Q

Where does diffusion happen and why?

A

Solutions and gases because these substances are free to move about randomly.

Q

list 2 ways of how the diffusion rate become faster.

A
  1. If it has a higher temperature it will have a faster diffusion rate because the particles have more energy so they move faster.
  2. If there is a larger surface area of the membrane, there will be a faster diffusion rate as particle pass through at once.

Q

Dissolved substances can movie in and out of cells.

How?

A

Only very small molecules can diffuse through cell membranes, e.g. oxygen ( for respiration), glucose, amino acids and water.
However, big molecules like strach and protein cannot fit through the membranes.
