Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
What is diffusion?
A
When gases or liquids move randomly through another liquid or gas. It can be high or low in concentration e.g. high - in a box, or low - in the open.
2
Q
Why does it sometimes take longer for gases to diffuse?
A
Sometimes it takes longer because particles in a gas may hit each other while diffusing.
3
Q
Why doesn’t diffusion happen in solids?
A
It’s particles are too close together and cannot flow.
4
Q
When does a high concentration occur?
A
When the gas/liquid is first added to the diffuser.
5
Q
When does a low concentration occur?
A
In the areas in which the liquid or gas has not yet reached.
6
Q
When does equal concentration occur?
A
When a liquid or gas has evenly distributed itself.
