different interviews and shit Flashcards
structured interview
-presence of an outline (a strict guideline of predetermined questions which the researcher has to follow
-predetermined questions is a data collection method that relies on asking questions in a set order to collect data on a topic
-closed questions
unstructured interview
-do not use any set questions
-the interviewer asks open-ended questions based on a specific research topic, and will try to let the interview flow like a natural conversation, it is meant to be more casual
-personal approach
-flexibility in qyestioninng
-rapport betweeb interviewrr and intervee
semi structured interviews
-a semi-structured interview is a qualitative research method
-combines a pre-determined set of open questions (questions that prompt discussion) with the opportunity for the interviewer to explore particular themes or responses further with questions from themselves
-mix of structured and unstructured interviews
focus groups
-a small group of carefully selected participants who contribute to open discussions for research, they discuss a certain topic in a moderate setting
-they have common characteristics or behaviours
-a natural comfortable candid conversation and the researchers observe the dynamics and listen to the insightful answers
naturalistic observation
observing your subjects in a real world setting
the researcher does not manipulate anything and doesn’t interfere in any way, they just observe
experiment
presence of dependant and independent variables
something must be manipulated by the researcher in the environment
random assignments
case study
-a focus on holistic description and explanation
-flexibility in the design and data collection methods
-reliance on multiple sources of evidence
-real world context
field experiment
-the independent variable is manipulated, and the dependent variable is measured in a real-world setting
-usually used in psychology when researchers want to observe participants in their natural environment
quasi experiment
-the subjects are assigned to groups based on non-random criteria
-aims to establish the cause and effect relationship of something
-usage of pre existing groups
-naturalistic setting
(studying a group of students)
simple random sampling
In this case each individual is chosen entirely by chance and each member of the population has an equal chance, or probability, of being selected
