aim
my study on pheromones
investigating whether synthesised male pheromones increase sociosexual behaviour of men
participants
38men (25-42) heterosexual, healthy, not on meds, averagely looking (not too attractive not too repulsive), with decent social skills with women, shaving regularily
they made them take personality questionaries and anyone with traits too strongly deviating frm the average was excluded
the procedure
participants are randomly divided into two groups (a double blind manner)
each participant brought his aftershave lotion (examined by specialists) and was asked to use i at least three times a week throughout the study period
they also gave the participants behavioural calendars on which they were supposed to mark the occurrences of these
1. petting, kissing and overall affection
2.sleeping next to a romantic partner
3.sex
4.unofficial dates
5.official dates
6.masturbation
after two weeks the subjects returned to the labolatory a techniciν randomly put either placebo or pheromones in the participants aftershave and the subjects went on to use their aftershave for another 6 weeks (so that the whole thimg took 8)
results
there were significantly more men in the pheromone group (compared to the placebo group) who had an increase in the first 4 activitirs
therefore
aplying synthetic pheromone results in an increase of sociosexual behaviours in which the female plays a major role, behavioours such as masturbation or prearranged dates did not increase)
pheromone doesnt increase libido but the attractiveness of men to women
strengths
usage of a double blind manner
weaknessess
did not consider all variables, invasion of privacy,
