What is the mechanism of disease in diabetic retinopathy?

A
  • Hyperglycaemia causes increased retinal blood flow and abnormal metabolism in the retinal vessel walls which precipitates damages to endothelial cells and pericytes
  • Endothelial dysfunction =inctreased vasculare permeability causing exudate

  • Dot + blot haemorrhages
