What is the presentation of anterior uveitis (Iritis)?

A

Triad:

  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Photophobia

Extra

  • Can have blurred vision
  • Floaters
  • Constricted pupil
  • Adhesions between iris and lens (Synechiae = pupil looks odd shaped)
  • Pus in anterior chamber (Hypopyon)

What is the treatment of iritis / anterior uveitis?

A
  1. Reduce inflamamation
    > Dexamethasone 0.1%
    > Can accelerate glaucoma
  2. Dilate pupil to prevent posterior synechiae
    > Cyclopentate 1%
  3. If IOP raised
    >Topical beta blockers
  4. Ophthalmology referral
