What are the risk factors/causes for cataracts?

  • Age related 30% >65 years
  • Diabetes
  • Corticosteroid use
  • Congenital (maternal rubella)
  • Hypocalcaemia (intefeers with aqueous humour)

  • Gradual painless deterioration of vision
  • Difficulty reading
  • Failure to recognise faces
  • Diplopia
  • Opacities
