When does type 1 diabetes usually start?
It starts when the immune system starts to attack beta cells. After someone eats their glucose levels will rise and stay high. This is called hypoglycaemia and can result in death if untreated. The kidneys are unable to absorb all of this glucose, so some is excreted in the urine.

What happens for a person to get type 2 diabetes?
Later in life
Lack of exercise, age family history and poor diet
Their body can’t produce enough insulin or the body does not respond to insulin anymore.
How can people with type 1 diabetes treat it?
They must take insulin as part of their treatment. This is because their bodies cannot make insulin anymore. To do this they will need to inject insulin into their bodies with a needle or an insulin pump
How can people with type 2 diabetes treat it?
Having a healthy diet, getting daily exercise and losing weight
What are the three different ways to test for diabetes?
Fasting glucose levels, urine dipstick and a blood glucose pinprick
