What is dexamethasone ?

steroid hormone ( corticosteroid)
found in almost every cell, related to glucose metabolism (adrenal glucocorticoid)

A
surpasses immune system

Why would you give dexamethasone?
A
bronchospasm cops/asthma allergic reaction croup spinal cord injury elevated ICP

Why not give the patient decadron?
A
hypersensitivity
sepsis

Side effects of the decadron?
A
headache restlessness euphoria htn ulcer formation vomiting immunosuppression fluid retention

What if I mix with other drugs?
A
do not give with calcium

Dose of decadron ?
A
A- 10-100mg IV/IO/IM
P- 0.25 -1mg/kg

reduces inflammation, thus a patient may not present with signs of sepsis/ infection
