What is atrovent?
What’s the MOA?
Atrovent inhibits mucous secretion (inhibits ACh muscarinic sites)
Adjunct to bronchodilation (reduces bronchospasm) - does not do this well alone
What the dose for atrovent
250-500 mcg via nebulizer
Why would you give atrovent ?
Persistent bronchospasm
Copd ( to open up bronchioles/ dry up mucous)
Why wouldn’t you give atrovent ?
Hypersensitivity to... ipratropium/atrovent atropine alkaloids Peanuts
What are some of the side effects you should warn the patient about atrovent ?
may make you feel dizzy, nervous, blurry vision, flushing, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting
Any concerns if you mix atrovent with another drug?
NEGATIVE, NO
What pregnancy class is atrovent?
B( give if benefits outweigh the harm )
Tip..
Give B2 agonist first, add atrovent as a second round of medication ( if needed )
