Developments & Brief Flashcards

1
Q

When have I negotiated an agreement taking into account stakeholder interest

A

Little Stour project: I negotiated with the landowner for access to their land for a period. I had to satisfy the requirements of the environment agency, my client and the general public. When speaking with the landowner, I showed the plan of works and how it would actually provide a benefit to them once the works were complete. They allowed us on to work with minimal payment, which satisfied all parties.

Q

SOAF: how did I deal with external party to do brief

A

This was for a project where there was limited publicly available guidance on the required methodology. Luckily, one of the people involved in writing it worked for an organisation that are on a framework agreement with my client. I reached out to them and asked for them to provide a quote and went from there.

Q

Ascertain client requirements on Large Scale Mains Replacement

A

I conducted a workshop at the start of the project to identify the “need statement” and understand why this project had to happen. This included:
- Identifying risks if the project did not happen
- Identifying expected benefits for the project to go ahead

Q

Environmental requirements in project brief

A

All of my leakage mains replacement projects had sustainability criteria. I advised the client that we could use more modern methods of pipe replacement (directional drilling) and could use a measure of roads closed/complaints about road closures to compare the performance.

Q

When have I produced a project brief

A

I produced a project brief on my Fareham Consolidation project. This brief included a background of the project, rationale for doing it, programme dates, relevant contacts and design informaiton. The design information included specifications for a designer to produce a test to fit document.

Q

How do I ensure that my client is in agreement to my proposed brief

A

On the above project, I conducted multiple sessions with the client team to gather their requirements for the project, to understand who the key internal stakeholders are, understand the risks should the project not proceed, and agree a “statement of need”

Q

How have I established success criteria and benefits of the project

A

On my Leakage mains replacement projects, I conducted a workshop with the client team to identify what the requirements of the project are. I like to condense this into a singular phrase - a “statement of need”

Q

How have I managed a project as part of a programme, considering any relevant dependencies

A

On my Level 10 Refresh project, this was part of a wider programme to optimise the use of space in the building. As part of this, my project was supposed to use desks that were in store. However, another project came up that required desks on the same programme and they did not have the budget to purchase desks. My advice to the client was to purchase the desks on my project as there was enough budget to purchase the desks before even touching the contingency.

Q

Provide a time you were successful achieving the project brief

A

Level 38 Refresh. The brief was to create a meeting point which could be in an airport lounge or hotel, and one that people would use. Speaking with the client following completion, they were very happy. Additionally, when visiting the space, I could see that it was frequently used.
