- When a sperm comes in contact with the egg , the egg’s plasma membrane depolarizes preventing the binding of any other sperm
- Vesicles called cortical granules release enzymes that cause the zone pellucida to become an impenetrable fertilization membrane
2
Q
What are the two layers that surround an egg
A
- The inner layer : Zona Pellucida
- The outer layer : Corona radiata
3
Q
What is morphogenesis ?
A
- This is when the embryo changes shape and cells are moving
4
Q
What is a morula ?
A
- A ball of cells that results from the cleavage stage. no cavity
5
Q
What is a blastocyst ?
A
- When the cells of the morula begin to differentiate
6
Q
What is the yolk sac ?
A
- The first annex formed and site of blood cell formation
7
Q
What is the Amnion ?
A
- It contains amniotic fluid to cushion and protect the embryo
8
Q
What is the chorion ?
A
- It develops into the fetal half of the placenta.
9
