What is a statement of need?
This is the client’s very first attempt to describe their possible requirements and vision.

What is a strategic brief?
The strategic brief develops from the statement of need and describes the client’s requirements in sufficient detail to form objectives and appoint consultants (SE ME Asbestos etc).
Defines objectives from the vision or need.
Functional and aesthetic requirements
Health and safety issues
Stakeholder requirements
What is a project brief and what does it include?
Is a development of the strategic brief and is he final briefing document. Contains detailed project information and requirements such as:
- Client information
- Site information
- Technical requirements (regulatory etc)
- Component requirements (visual components, colours etc)
- Project requirements (cost quality time)
- Spatial requirements (users, phasing requirements)
Who prepares the project brief?
Preparation of the project brief is likely to be coordinated by the lead consultant.
The briefing documents are owned by the client.
How are project briefs presented?
Report or Schedule format which should be editable to enable ongoing change as the project or design progresses.
What is a business case?
Providing information necessary to enable approval or reach a reasoned decision.

The vision defines for what they wish the project to achieve, requirements are then drawn from this.

What is a stakeholder?
Anyone who has an:

or Affected.
Who are some stakeholder’s?
Members of the client organisation (such as user panels, champions and department heads).
Other user groups (such as customers, residents, occupants, and visitors).
Neighbours and community groups.
Funders and shareholders.
The local authority building regulations, licensing and planning departments.
Other statutory authorities and non-statutory consultees.
Special interest groups such as heritage organisations and environmental bodies.
Suppliers.
The emergency services.
Statutory undertakers (utilities companies).
Insurance and warranty providers.

What is a Vision?
A Vision is the desired ‘state’ or ‘achievement’ - This is usually described in a statement of need.
Strategies then describe the steps that are to be taken in that direction.
Describes where it wants to be at some point in the future, perhaps in turns of turnover, environmental credentials, projects won, and so on.
What is a Mission?
Missions are individual objectives that will lead to meeting a vision or one step closer.
I.e. Vision = Sustainable company, mission could include to omit fossil fuel during their operating hours.
