Development Of The Periodic Table Flashcards
In the early 1800s what were elements arranged as ?
In the early 1800s elements were arranged by atomic mass
Until quite recently, there were two obvious ways to categorise elements :
By their physical and chemical properties
Their relative atomic mass
Why were gaps left in the table ?
Gaps were left in the table to make sure that the elements with similar properties stayed in the same group
Where are metals found on the periodic table ?
Metals are found on the left of the periodic table
Where are the non metals found in the periodic table ?
Non metals are found to the right of the periodic table
What does the group number of the periodic table show ?
The group number tells you how many electrons are on the outer shell
